Advancing Social Justice Through Science
Social justice is the foundation of any equitable and inclusive society—yet millions across the region and beyond still face barriers to equality and opportunity. The Science for Society Centre at the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) is dedicated to promoting social justice through science and evidence-based research and practices, working to create a more equitable, inclusive and resilient society.
We achieve this by working with marginalized communities, strengthening civil society, and researching the root causes of inequality. Our Science for Society teams collaborate with a variety of partners, providing essential tools and skills, and designing and managing programs through the Centre’s Human Security and Social Justice Division and the WANA Institute.
To fulfil its mission, the Science for Society Centre engages with communities, conducts research, implements projects, and provides training. We also produce policy papers, briefs, reports, and white papers, facilitating open dialogue among stakeholders to power impactful solutions.
Our Focus Areas:
Driving Impact Through Research & Collaboration
Inclusive policies that support marginalized communities lead to stronger economies and more resilient societies. By promoting evidence-based solutions, empowering communities, and strengthening civil society, we contribute to a future where social justice is not just an ideal, but a tangible reality for all.

The Ongoing Need for Justice & Inclusion
The pursuit of justice becomes even more critical in times of conflict, uncertainty and hardship. As inequalities deepen and communities face mounting challenges, upholding the principles of dignity, equity, and inclusion becomes more important than ever.
Achieving meaningful change is not the work of one institution alone—it requires a collective effort from policymakers, researchers, civil society, and communities working together towards a shared vision of justice and opportunity for all.
At the Science for Society Centre at RSS, we remain committed to fostering a world where an individual’s circumstances do not dictate opportunities, and where fairness and the collective pursuit of justice ensure that everyone counts. Through our work, we continue to advocate for policies and solutions that create lasting, meaningful change.
At RSS, our commitment to social justice is embedded in our mission to use scientific research, innovation, and engineering technologies to drive economic development and social progress. We conduct applied research, provide technical expertise, and develop solutions that address real-world challenges, ensuring that science serves communities and advances equity. Through collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and a steadfast commitment to progress, we work to empower individuals, strengthen institutions, and contribute to a more just and resilient society.
Social justice is not just an aspiration—it is an achievable reality for which we all share responsibility.
