Biorisk Management Training

10th August - 13th August 2026

Duration: 4 days 24 training hours

Cost: 400 JDs

Objective:

Biorisk Management Training is a workshop that focuses on how to design and implement an effective biosafety and biosecurity management system for application in a range of scientific facilities. The training workshop combines high impact lectures with hands-on table-top exercises. Using the AMP (Assessment, Mitigation, Performance) model, the increasing need for a comprehensive management system for biosafety and biosecurity in laboratories will be discussed and explored; in addition, detailed approaches and the use of new tools for risk assessment will be introduced. Moreover, participants will have opportunities to debate the implementation strategies and lessons learned during the workshop’s discussion sessions.

After successfully completing this workshop, participants will recognize and understand the AMP model and how it applies to laboratory work and beyond the laboratory door; Biorisk Management system principles and concepts; and application and practical uses of the ISO 35001:2019.

Target Group

The course particularly designed for the medical and veterinary students, researchers, or technicians working in research and diagnostic molecular biology, virology, and microbiology laboratories

Training Topics

At the end of the course, the participant will be able to:

  • explain the key components of administrative controls that a facility has to put in place to mitigate biosafety and biosecurity risks;
  • plan a strategy for the implementation of a Biorisk Management System at their own facility/university;
  • effectively apply the Biosafety & Biosecurity Risk Assessment Methodology in a range of scientific contexts; and,
  • contribute to the development and implementation of national and institutional mechanisms, guidelines, regulations and legislation for Biorisk Management.

Trainer Bio

As a scientist, Dr. Nisreen AL-Hmoud is motivated to provide research that focuses on the public good; her research focuses on the preservation of human health and biodiversity. During the last fifteen years, she has dedicated her research to the development of scientific capacity in the fields of biosafety, water & food safety and security, and evaluation of environmental risks for scientists, government agencies, local communities and Non-Governmental Organizations in Jordan, the Middle East, and North Africa region. She is actively contributing to Biorisk Management capacity building programs both nationally and regionally.

Dr. AL-Hmoud is particularly interested in effective and sustainable scientific international cooperation. Her research collaborators include international NGOs, US-based scientists, and regional One Health networks. She promotes a holistic approach to research that takes into account microbiology, molecular biology, virology, toxicology and ecology to investigate the most effective methods to reduce health risks associated with naturally occurring infectious diseases and outbreaks.
