Heart of the Past, Mind on the Present, Vision for the Future

The Royal Scientific Society stands as a testament to the visionary leadership and unwavering commitment of its founders, who recognised the crucial role that science and technology would play in shaping the nation’s destiny. Due to the significant global changes that occurred in the 1960s and the evolving aspirations of Jordan, the RSS was established with a mission to promote knowledge and progress.

In an era defined by transformative challenges, Jordan sought to chart a course towards modernity and self-sufficiency. The founding of the RSS in 1970 by His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal through a Royal Decree by His Late Majesty King Hussein bin Talal marked a pivotal moment in Jordan’s journey. With a clear recognition of the intrinsic value of scientific advancement, the RSS was established as an independent non-governmental, not-for-profit institution, with a mission to actively support and guide the nation’s development through sound technical advice and expertise.

The founding mission of the RSS was profoundly influenced by the need to nurture local talent, bridge knowledge gaps, and foster international collaboration. As Jordan embarked on its journey towards modernisation, the RSS positioned itself as a hub for multidisciplinary research, technological innovation, and the promotion of scientific literacy. Through the establishment of cutting-edge laboratories, research centres, and collaborative initiatives, the RSS aimed to enhance the nation’s self-reliance and contribute to global scientific discourse.

Over the years, the RSS has evolved into a trailblazing institution that transcends boundaries. Rooted in the heart of the past, the RSS keeps its mind firmly focused on the present challenges and opportunities. With a resolute vision for the future, it continues to embrace its mission of nurturing scientific excellence, fostering innovation, and propelling Jordan forward on a trajectory of knowledge-driven prosperity. The mission it set forth continues to inspire the RSS as it forges ahead, guided by the spirit of progress and the legacy of its founders.

As the RSS embarked on its journey, its mission evolved to align with the changing needs of Jordan. The commitment to equitable development and the pursuit of knowledge became the driving force behind the RSS’s work. Over the years, the RSS expanded its role, becoming a vital partner in policy formulation, technological innovation, research collaboration, and community engagement. Today, the RSS remains steadfast in its dedication to shaping a brighter future for Jordan.

The legacy of the RSS serves as an inspiration, reminding us that while rooted in the past, our focus must remain on the present, driven by an unwavering commitment to a future where science and technology continue to empower the nation and its people.
